Hamburg District Culture Prize

The Hamburg District Culture Prize recognizes projects and programs that show particular quality and that are particularly suitable to act as a stimulating example on initiative groups in other Hamburg districts as well. It has been awarded to outstanding local cultural projects and programs since 2002 and is awarded by a representative of the prize donors, mostly by the cultural senators . The endowment increased from 5,000 euros in 2002 to 12,000 euros in 2019.

Benefactor

The prize is donated by the Hamburg Cultural Foundation , the Gabriele Fink Foundation , the Patriotic Society of 1765 and the Hamburg Authority for Culture and Media . The Alfred Toepfer Foundation FVS supports the implementation. The umbrella association for local culture Stadtkultur Hamburg e. V. is in charge of the implementation and further development of the competition.

Conditions of participation

Independent sponsors of cultural work (cultural initiatives, centers and associations) as well as individuals who are involved in district cultural work in Hamburg can apply for the Hamburg District Culture Prize. Commercial providers, party groups and denominational groups are excluded.

In addition to cultural projects, course and event programs as well as parts of the programs, event series, special event formats and festivals with delimited content are expressly requested to apply for the tender, provided that they meet the quality criteria of the award.

Projects that have already applied in the past can apply again for the current call.

  • 2009: "East Side Story" - LOLA cultural center in Lohbrügge
  • 2010: “Der Klotz im Park” - pupils of the Bonifatiusschule with the support of the Wilhelmsburg history workshop
  • 2011: "Moby Dick" - BRAKULA, district culture center in Bramfeld
  • 2012 and 2013: not awarded
  • 2014: “48h Wilhelmsburg” - Wilhelmsburg Community Center Foundation
