The altonale is a district culture festival in the Hamburg district of Altona . It has up to 600,000 visitors. The highlight of the two-week event with a three-day street festival until 2009 was the fun parade on the final Sunday , which was spun off in 2010 and became the core of the new STAMP festival in September. Altonale GmbH is responsible for the event .

history

The forerunner event to the altonale took place in 1998 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Altona town hall . It was organized by an external organizer, was limited to stalls on Ottenser Hauptstrasse and was not well received by the population. The initiative for the altonale in September 1999 came from the district and cultural center “Motte”. Associations, non-profit organizations and companies joined forces; the event had 100,000 visitors. The altonale 2000 already had around 300,000 visitors. 130 institutions from political organizations and initiatives, supporting institutions, schools and up to 100 businesses took part in the altonale 2002. A budget of 300,000 euros was available for the event.

In 2008 the altonale took place during the European Football Championship 2008 ; A large screen was set up for football fans in the Neue Große Bergstrasse.

In 2009, the fee rate charged by the Altona district office for the use of space was increased from six to 30 cents after an objection by the tax authorities' internal audit as at other street festivals. However, 80 percent of the higher income flowed back to the altonale .

In 2009 the first film altonale took place, which is supported by the Hamburg Film Festival .

European partner countries take part in the altonale . In 2006 this was Poland, 2007 Norway, 2008 Finland, 2010 Austria and 2011 Turkey.

The event area comprises the core area of the district with Ottensen , Altona-Altstadt and Altona-Nord .
