The Kulturpalast Hamburg (short form: KPH ; spelling: "Kultur Palast Hamburg" or "Kultur Palast Billstedt") is a cultural center in Hamburg-Billstedt . In the former " Wasserwerk Billstedt", the pump hall and the front building from the years 1912/1913 are listed and cultural projects are organized. According to the company, the house at Öjendorfer Weg 30 / 30a has been "the only cultural center in the east of Hamburg" since it was founded in 1986. The Billstedter Kulturzentrum counts almost 250,000 visitors per year at its 320 events and 460 educational offers (as of 2015).

history

Pump house and entrance to the KPH (August 2016)

From the forerunner association founded in 1980 for the establishment and continuation of a district center for Billstedt / Horn eV , the Kulturpalast Billstedt e. V. During the reign of Klaus von Dohnanyi in 1982, an occupation of the Billstedt police station helped the association to open a district center in Billstedt. Four years later - for the time being still at Schiffbeker Weg 8 - the Kulturpalast was founded and on September 4, 1993, after a year and a half of renovation, the district initiative moved to the former "Wasserwerk Billstedt" on Öjendorfer Weg. In 1996 the “water bunker” campaign started , with which the water storage facility could be transformed into a music club in 2002. In August 2015, the construction of another large hall with 400 seats began.

Projects

Various projects of the “Stiftung Kultur Palast Hamburg” gained notoriety beyond the borders of Billstedt under the umbrella brand “Kultur Palast Hamburg”, including:

  • Bambi galore is a heavy metal club founded in 2004 . The venue, the windowless vaulted cellar in the Kultur Palast, with a capacity of 150 listeners, increasingly established itself as a preferred address for bands from all over Europe and turned Billstedt into a “heavy metal stronghold” ( Hamburger Abendblatt ) . The Canadian heavy and speed metal band Skull Fist is an example of a well-known stage appearance at around 60 concert evenings every year .
  • BilleVue is the name of the largest culture and city festival in the east of Hamburg, which has been held since 2002 and is attended by more than 100,000 guests.
  • In collaboration with the Hamburg University of Music and Theater, Billstedt Classics aims to establish an open orchestra .
  • HipHop Academy Hamburg promotes 13 to 20 year old talents in the fields of breakdance , graffiti , DJing , rap , beatbox , producing and new style dance
  • Klangstrolche is a music educational project that was started in 2007 by the Billstedter Kulturpalast and is now spread throughout Hamburg. Up to 2000 course participants between the ages of six weeks and six years are trained to become a Klangstrolche .
