Dombasle-sur-Meurthe (German, outdated: Dombasel an der Mörthe ) is a French commune with 9,734 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

Dombasle is located at the confluence of the Meurthe and Sânon , 17 kilometers east of Nancy and 15 kilometers west of Lunéville .
Origin of name
The name of the place goes back to the Saint Basolus von Verzy (French: Saint Basle ).

Economy and Transport
In 1873, a Solvay Group plant was founded here, which today is one of the largest soda manufacturers in the world and the esco company operates a production site for the extraction of salt here.

Personalities
Dombasle is the birthplace and residence of the writer Philippe Claudel . In Dombasle, the agronomist Christoph Joseph Alexandre Mathieu de Dombasle (1777–1843), who is considered to be the pioneer of higher education in agriculture in France, died.
