Xeuilley is a French commune with 934 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Nancy and the municipality of Moselle et Madon .
geography
The municipality of Xeuilley in the north of the Saintois landscape is located on the lower Madon , five kilometers from its confluence with the Moselle and 15 kilometers south of Nancy .
The 7.37 km² large municipal area extends from the left bank of the Madon River, which forms the border with the municipality of Frolois , in a south-westerly direction over the troughs of the Madon tributaries Ruisseau des Grandes Côtes and Ruisseau de Lac and those rising at the edges of the troughs Hill. On such a hill, the center of Xeuilleys lies very prominently above the Madon Valley, so that the church can be seen from afar. The municipal area is largely dominated by arable land, only in the southeast is an approx. 35 hectare forest area, which corresponds to a share of only 5% of the total area.
Neighboring municipalities of Xeuilley are: Bainville-sur-Madon in the north, Frolois in the northeast, Pierreville in the southeast, Houdelmont in the south, Thélod in the southwest and Marthemont in the west.
history
The village of Xeuilley was first documented in 1051 as capella de Xuylleio . Other early names were Cheuliaco and Cheulaio (1065).
The Saint-Rémy church in Xeuilley was built in the 19th century.

Economy and Infrastructure
Some of the residents of Xeuilley are employed in agriculture. There are five farms in the municipality (mainly cattle breeding). There are also small craft and service companies based in the village. Xeuilley has been producing cement for over 100 years . The largest employer in Xeuilley is still the cement works located on the Madon , which has belonged to the Vicat Group since 1965 , the founder of which was the son of the inventor Louis-Joseph Vicat .
Xeuilley is also a school location (l'école primaire & maternelle Fisson Pierre ) for neighboring communities.
The municipality of Xeuilley is connected to the neighboring municipalities by département roads. Immediately north of the municipality, there is a connection to the Neufchâteau - Ludres (D 331) expressway , which in turn connects to the A330 autoroute to Nancy . Xeuilley station is on the Nancy - Mirecourt - Merrey line , operated by the TER Lorraine transport company.
