Vicat is a cement and building materials manufacturer based in Paris and is the third largest cement manufacturer in France . In addition to France, the group is active in 10 other countries ( USA , Turkey , Senegal , Switzerland , Egypt , Italy , Mali , India , Kazakhstan and Mauritania ).
For 2009, the company reports equity of 2082 million euros and earnings of 234 million euros. The French public company is listed on NYSE Euronext under the symbol VCT , but is still largely owned by the Merceron-Vicat family.
history
The company was founded in 1853 by Joseph Vicat (1821–1902), the son of Louis-Joseph Vicat , the discoverer of artificial hydraulic lime. He built the first cement plant in Vif, a village south of Grenoble , Isère department . In 1921 the company was registered as a stock corporation, which in 1922 built a cement factory in not far away Montalieu. In 1968, HeidelbergCement acquired a stake which was increased to 35% and held until June 2007, when HeidelbergCement needed the proceeds to take over the British building materials group Hanson plc . Between 1974 and 2008 Vicat expanded its activities abroad. In 2010, the cement factory in Montaulieu and 4 other locations were operated in France. In Saint-Égrève, north of Grenoble, the company installed the Vicat cement factory's material ropeway to transport crushed material from a quarry to the factory on the other side of the Isère .
Products
Vicat mainly produces cement, concrete and granulates. The other activities include various activities such as the delivery of ready-mixed concrete, precast concrete parts, construction chemistry, paper and general transport.
