Material ropeway for the Vicat cement factory

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The material ropeway of the Vicat cement factory is a Lorenseilbahn of the company Vicat in Saint-Égrève north of Grenoble , Département Isère , France .

It connects the company's cement works ( 45 ° 13 ′ 45.3 ″  N , 5 ° 40 ′ 6 ″  E ) with a limestone quarry near Sassenage halfway up a mountain slope on the opposite side of the Isère ( 45 ° 13 ′ 8.7 ″  N , 5 ° 39 ′ 1 ″  E ). On the 1830 m long route, it overcomes a height difference of 121 m and crosses the river, a motorway and several roads. The motorway and the roads are each protected by large nets from falling stones or a cart.

In contrast to most material ropeways, the system built by POMA is a single-cable circulating ropeway in which the 56 detachable tilting lorries are clamped to the circulating hoisting rope and carried by it. This saves separate suspension and pulling ropes and the need to equip the carts with drives and roller batteries. Since the lorries, each with a capacity of 900 kg, go downhill, except when crossing rivers and autobahns, and thus generate a large part of the drive energy themselves, the effort required to drive the system was kept low.

The material ropeway transports 324 tons per hour at a speed of 5 m / s (18 km / h).
