geography

The municipality of Pierreville in the north of the Saintois landscape lies on the left bank of the Lower Madon , eight kilometers from its confluence with the Moselle and 18 kilometers south of Nancy .

With 2.87 km², Pierreville is one of the smaller municipalities in Lorraine by area. The municipal area extends from the Madonufer, which forms the eastern municipal boundary, in a south-westerly direction to the gently rising hills that tower over the Madon valley by up to 70 meters. Outside the built-up settlement area, there is mostly arable and meadow land. The proportion of forest in the community area is small at around 20 ha.

Neighboring municipalities of Pierreville are: Frolois in the north, Pulligny in the east, Autrey in the south, Houdelmont in the southwest and Xeuilley in the northwest.

history

Pierreville was first mentioned in 1094 when the Saint-Thiébaut monastery was founded in Metz .

In the Middle Ages there was a castle on the banks of the Madon opposite Frolois , of which nothing is preserved today. 1544 and 1630 went down in village history as the plague years, and in 1630 a storm also destroyed a third of the harvest.

In 1793 the community was called Pierre Ville , 1801 Pierville .

The bridge over the Madon was built in the 17th century, the church in Pierreville is from the 18th century.

Population development

The population of Pierreville almost doubled between 1962 and 2006. The steady growth of the population is due to the construction of houses in the west of the municipality as well as the proximity to the Nancy / Ludres / Neuves-Maisons metropolitan area.
