Mousson is a French commune with 104 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Nancy and the Canton of Pont-à-Mousson .

geography

The village of Mousson is halfway between Metz and Nancy on a mountain cone that overlooks the nearby Moselle valley by 160 meters. The settlement is grouped in a semicircle around the former castle ( Château de Mousson , Monument historique ) on the mountain top. The eastern half of the municipality is forested ( Forêt du Juré ).

history

The Mousson reign belonged to the Counts of Bar from the 10th century . The castle controlled one of the few Moselle bridges between Nancy and Metz . The city that developed on this bridge was called Pont-à-Mousson (Bridge at Mousson).
