Gripport is a French commune with 285 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Nancy and the Pays du Saintois municipality .
geography
The municipality of Gripport is located on the Moselle , about 20 kilometers southwest of Lunéville and 30 kilometers southeast of Nancy . To the west of the Moselle, the Canal des Vosges runs parallel with two locks in the Gripport area. Two ponds were created between the channel and the Moselle, some of which are used for fish farming. The community area bordering the Département Vosges in the south rises from the Moselle valley to the west in a steep step of around 100 meters in altitude. The settlement area of the village extends in a cut of the step. The slopes and smaller areas on the plateau in the west and south are forested.
Neighboring communities of Gripport are Lebeuville in the north, Bainville-aux-Miroirs in the northeast, Chamagne in the east, Socourt in the south, Hergugney in the southwest and Germonville in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Charmes reign, which was founded in 1300 by Duke Friedrich III. was used by Lorraine . The parish of Gripport was an annex of the chapter in Remiremont .
The elements of the coat of arms also provide information about the history of Gripport. The keys stand for the Remiremont chapter , the episcopal figure embodies Goericus , Bishop of Metz from 614 to 629, patron saint of Épinal and namesake of Gripport ( Goerici Portus ). The grate symbolizes the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence of Rome ( Saint Laurent ), patron of the former chapel in Gripport before the church was built. The three silver stones represent the chapter of Toul Cathedral , which owned goods in Gripport. The center of the coat of arms is dominated by the shield of Saint Leonhard of Limoges , the patron saint of the parish.

Economy and Infrastructure
There are six farms in the municipality of Gripport (grain cultivation, dairy farming, horse breeding).
The D 570 trunk road from Charmes leads through Gripport , mostly following the Moselle valley, to Nancy . The D 904 branches off in Gripport and leads to Toul via Vézelise . On this road there is a connection to the motorway-like RN 67 ( E 23 ) from Nancy to Épinal , immediately west of Gripport . The nearest train station is in nearby Charmes on the Nancy-Épinal- Remiremont line .
