Chamagne is a French commune in the Vosges department of Region Grand Est (2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the Épinal municipal association, founded in 2017 .
geography
The municipality of Chamagne, with 465 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), is located on the Moselle , 30 kilometers northwest of Épinal and 30 kilometers southwest of Lunéville .
The municipality is located in the north of the Vosges department, on the border with the Meurthe-et-Moselle department . The Moselle largely forms the western border of the municipality. To the east of Chamagne, the wooded area gradually rises to 342 m above sea level. M. at. The municipality has a share of around 400 hectares in the Bois de Villacourt and Forêt de Charmes forest areas . Several small rivers run through the forests, all of which drain towards the Moselle.
Neighboring municipalities of Chamagne are Bainville-aux-Miroirs in the north, Villacourt and Saint-Germain in the northeast, Charmes in the southeast and south, Socourt in the southwest and Gripport in the west.
history
The village first appeared in a document in 1164 as Chemaines . From 1751 Chamagne belonged to the Bailiwick of Charmes , ecclesiastically to the deanery Épinal .
In the 19th century, many of the Chamagne residents were peddlers selling books and picture sheets . The book and the pilgrim's staff in the coat of arms remind of this.

Economy and Infrastructure
There are five farms in the municipality (dairy farming).
The D D9 road from Charmes to Bayon runs through Chamagne . The Nancy - Épinal - Remiremont line , operated by the TER Lorraine company, runs east of the village, with the nearest train stations in Charmes and Bayon.
