Dogneville is a French commune in the Vosges department in the region of Grand Est . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and, since 2012, to the municipal association Agglomération d'Épinal .

geography

The municipality of Dogneville with 1,486 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) is located on the Moselle , immediately north of Épinal , the capital (chef-lieu) of the Vosges department.

The municipality covers a section of the right, eastern bank of the Moselle and its hinterland. To the east the ground relief rises gently, the terrain reaches 390 m above sea level north of the village center in Fort de Dogneville . The area is interrupted by the Saint-Oger , a small tributary of the Moselle that rises in the western foothills of the Vosges . In addition to the striking Fort de Dogneville , the Fort de la Voivre and the western tip of Fort de Longchamp are two more of these former defensive structures in the area of the municipality of Dogneville. Today they are only partially accessible and hidden under the dense tree population. Notable forest areas in the municipality include Bois de la Vigne, La Haie du Ban and La Haie du Pin in the north and the large forest Bois de la Voivre in the southeast.

The branch canal, which branches off from the Moselle in Épinal ( Branche d'Épinal ) and leads via the port of Épinal to the Canal des Vosges , crosses the Moselle in the extreme southwest of the municipality of Dogneville on a 100 meter long and 10 meter wide canal bridge .

In the south, the municipal area of Dogneville borders directly on the industrial areas Zone Industrielle de la Voivre and Parc Économique du Saut le Cerf (with a clinic complex) of the city of Épinal.

Neighboring communities of Dogneville are Girmont in the north, Dignonville in the northeast, Longchamp (point of contact) in the east, Jeuxey in the southeast, Épinal in the south, Golbey in the southwest and Chavelot in the northwest.

history

During the Ancien Régimes, Dogneville was the seat of a mayor's office under the influence of the diocese of Metz . Ecclesiastically, Dogneville belonged to the deanery Épinal in the diocese of Saint-Dié .

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows the left half of the coat of arms of Épinal (tower and lily ) on the left , the miter of Bishop Arnulf von Metz on the top right and an airplane on the bottom right.

Cont

In the area of the municipality are Fort de Dogneville , Fort de la Voivre and Fort de Longchamp, three of the large fortifications built in a ring around Épinal after the Franco-German War .

  • Fort de Dogneville , formerly Fort Kléber , located immediately north of the town center , was built from 1876 to 1878 for seven officers, 14 non-commissioned officers and 280 soldiers. The fort is now in relatively good condition, but parts of the masonry are in danger of collapsing, so that the owner, the municipality of Dogneville, has forbidden entering the fort without permission.
  • The Fort de la Voivre ( Battery de la Voivre ), also called Fort Lasalle , is located at 364 meters above sea level southeast of Dogneville in a forest on the border with the municipality of Jeuxey. Since construction began in 1882, it was part of the defensive ring around Épinal with a crew of no more than 100 and its main task was to secure the road to Rambervillers . The fortification is in very poor condition and is owned by the municipality of Jeuxey. The bunker entrances were partially filled in order to create a motocross track on the site.
  • Fort de Longchamp , formerly Fort Rapp , north-east of the town center , was built from 1876 to 1878 for 17 officers, 42 NCOs and 480 soldiers. The fort, which is owned by the community of Dignonville, is still in good condition, but completely closed to visitors in order to protect a bat colony.

Population development

The increase in population from the 1970s to the 1990s is due to the construction of a new residential area immediately southwest of the old village center. Many employees from the surrounding industrial parks have settled here.

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture plays a minor role in Dogneville. There are still six farms in the municipality (dairy farming, goat and sheep breeding). Wine is grown on the hills below Fort de Dogneville. Due to the proximity to the industrial areas and business parks of Thaon-les-Vosges and Épinal , commuters form the largest group of workers in Dogneville.

In nearby Épinal there is a connection to the two-lane national road 57 from Épinal to Nancy and to the TER Lorraine railway network (Nancy-Épinal- Remiremont railway line ).

The Épinal-Dogneville airport ( Aérodrome Epinal-Dogneville ) in the southwest of the municipality is used by the Aéro-club Vosgien , founded in 1921 . One of the founders is the fighter pilot René Fonck . In addition to flight models, small and ultra-light aircraft are used.
