Essegney is a French commune in the Vosges department in the region of Grand Est (2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Agglomération d'Épinal, founded in 2017 .
geography
The municipality of Essegney with 754 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) is located on the Moselle , about 25 kilometers northwest of Épinal .
The Moselle flows in a south-east-north-west direction through the municipality, the core town of Essegney is on the right bank of the Moselle. In the extreme south-west, the Canal des Vosges, built parallel to the Moselle, runs through the municipality. The next bridges lead downstream in Charmes and upstream in Portieux over the Moselle.
Essegney also includes a six-kilometer-long finger-shaped bulge of the community area to the northeast, which consists of dense forest ( Bois d'Essegney ).
The built-up settlement area has merged with the town of Charmes in the northwest and with the parish of Langley in the southeast . Other neighboring communities are Saint-Rémy-aux-Bois ( Département Meurthe-et-Moselle ) in the northeast, Damas-aux-Bois in the east and Vincey in the south.
history
The place name of Essegney is derived from the Gallo-Roman Ausiniaca Villa , which first appeared in writing in the 12th century. The village developed around a hospital founded by nuns from Nancy ( Soeurs-Grises ) in 1438. The village of Essegney was part of the Bailiwick of Châtel from 1594 until the French Revolution . The Saint-Pierre church was built around 1720, it was and is still responsible for the neighboring parish of Langley. She belongs to the deanery of Jorxey in the diocese of Toul .

Economy and Infrastructure
There are five livestock farms in the municipality.
The D 32 trunk road from Charmes to Rambervillers runs through the municipality of Essegney . In the nearby town of Charmes there is a connection to the motorway-like RN 57 from Nancy to Épinal . Charmes station, one and a half kilometers from Essegney, is on the Blainville-Damelevières-Lure railway line .
