history
The current community is mentioned for the first time in 1176 under the Latin name Sancti-Remigii in a document from the Abbey of Beaupré. The French name appears for the first time in 1420 in the form of Sainct-Remeig . Saint-Rémy-aux-Bois historically belonged to the Bailiwick (Bailliage) Châtel and thus to the Duchy of Lorraine , which fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the community was then in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . From 1793 to 1801 the community was assigned to the Lunéville district. Saint-Rémy-aux-Bois was part of the canton of Bayon from 1793 to 2015 and has been within the canton of Lunéville-2 since 2015. Since 1801, Saint-Rémy-aux-Bois has also been assigned to the Arrondissement of Lunéville. Until 1871, the community was in the old Meurt (h) e. Since then it has been part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department. The community was completely destroyed in September 1944 by shelling by an SS unit. The current name has been official since 1961. Before that, the name forms Saint-Rémy and Saint-Remy-au-Bois were also used.
