Nonhigny is a French commune with 122 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Lunéville and the Canton of Baccarat (until 2015 the Canton of Blâmont ).

geography

The municipality is located about 54 kilometers southeast of Nancy in the southeast of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department. The community consists of the place Nonhigny and a few individual farms. The forest area of la Grande Haie covers large areas in the east of the municipality. Neighboring communities are Harbouey in the north and northeast, Parux in the east, Montreux in the south and Halloville in the west.

history

The present-day community is mentioned indirectly in 880 (Capella de Nohennes) under the name Nohennes in a document. Nonhigny belonged to the Bailiwick of Lunéville and thus to the Duchy of Lorraine , which fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the community was then in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . There was destruction in the two world wars. From 1793 to 1801 the municipality was assigned to the Blâmont district. Nonhigny changed assignments to arrondissements and cantons several times. From 1793 to 1801 it was part of the canton of Cirey. It was then part of the canton of Lorquin from 1801 to 1821 and then incorporated into the canton of Blâmont until 2015. Since then it has been part of the canton of Baccarat. From 1801 to 1821 Nonhigny was assigned to the Arrondissement of Sarrebourg and has since been assigned to the Arrondissement of Lunéville. Until 1871, the community was in the old Meurt (h) e. Since then it has been part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department .

Nonhigny is far away from national transport connections. Several kilometers away, the N4 passes to the north and the N59 to the south . The closest connections are in Blâmont (N4) or Baccarat and Raon-l'Étape (N59). The D20, which runs through the village, is important for regional traffic.
