The community area comprises a section of the gentle hill country between the valleys of the Sânon in the north and the Vezouze in the south. The streams and ditches in the municipal area of Xousse ( Ruisseau de Baraque, Ruisseau de la Noue, Ruisseau des Grandes Meizes and Ruisseau de la Saline ) flow in a fan shape to the north over the small river Remoncourt to the Sânon in the Moselle department. The Rhine-Marne Canal runs parallel to the Sânon . The largest part of the 6.14 km² municipal area consists of arable and pasture areas, only a small part in the south is wooded ( Bois des Évrieux, Champ Bonhomme ). The terrain gradually rises towards the southwest; At 306 m above sea level, it reaches its greatest height on the southwestern municipal boundary.

The hamlet of Kudémont to the west of the town center belongs to Xousse .

Neighboring communities of Xousse are Lagarde in the north, Remoncourt in the east, Leintrey in the southeast, Emberménil in the south and Vaucourt in the west.

history

The golden lion on a blue background in the coat of arms of Xousse is a reminder of Jacques de Xousse , whose family was ennobled by Duke Anton II in 1510 .

The place name originated from the Old High German Sulz / Sulze for brine or salt water . The spellings for the place name developed from Solcia in 1129 via Xouces (1328), Xouse (1497), Xousses (1506) and Xoussé (1793) to today's Xousse from 1801.

Xousse was on the border with the German Empire from 1871 to 1914.

In October 1944, Xousse was 98% destroyed in fighting between Americans and Germans. Many residents were forced to dig defensive trenches; most of the residents were later deported towards Sarrebourg .
