Sulz (salt water)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sulz ( Old High German sulza or sulze ) was a common term for salt water , brine and brine in the Middle Ages . The word Sulz was used very often to denote bodies of water with a high mineral content (such as natural and exposed mineral or salt springs ), high-salt standing water (such as small salt lakes) and salty or highly mineralized flowing waters (such as streams and rivers).

As a result, the word Sulz was included in many place names either directly or as a name part; for locations that were located at such waters or in the names of the waters themselves (such as in Sulz or Sulzbach). This naming is mainly to be found in the Upper German-speaking area .
