Cittamātra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cittamātra (pronounced “chittamaatra”) means “only mind” in Sanskrit and denotes a special doctrine in Indian Buddhism according to which all things (Sanskrit: artha) are purely mental, “only mind”.

The term cittamātra is also used as the school name for the Yogācāra tradition of Indian Buddhism.

It is true that not all tracts that are assigned to the Yogācāra tradition represent the cittamātra teaching, but on the other hand it cannot be found in its pure form outside of this teaching tradition.
