Vigneulles is a French commune with 242 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Lunéville and the canton of Lunéville-2 (until 2015 the canton of Bayon ). The inhabitants call themselves Vigneullais (es) .
geography
The municipality is located about 18 kilometers southeast of Nancy in the south of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department. Neighboring communities are Rosières-aux-Salines in the north and east, Damelevières and Barbonville in the south-east and Saffais in the west. The Meurthe River crosses Vigneulles and in parts forms the municipal boundary. There are numerous ponds on the Meurthe that were created as salt pans.
history
The place was settled early. This was proven by excavations in 2008, which unearthed finds from the Gallo-Roman period. The present-day community is first mentioned in a document in 1152 in the Latin form Vineolis . The ruling families changed in the Middle Ages. The parish was part of the bailiwick (Bailliage) Nancy. This in turn belonged historically to the Duchy of Lorraine , which fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the community was then in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . From 1793 to 1801 the community was assigned to the Lunéville district. Vigneulles changed cantons several times. From 1793 to 1801 it was part of the canton of Blainville, from 1801 to 2015 of the canton of Bayon and since then of the canton of Lunéville-2. Since 1801, Vigneulles has also been assigned to the Arrondissement of Lunéville. Until 1871, the community was in the old Meurt (h) e. Since then it has been part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department . Until the 1860s, many residents made a living from viticulture. The phylloxera disaster completely destroyed the vineyards and the cultivation of wine was almost given up. Fruit trees, mostly mirabelle plums, replaced the vineyards.

traffic
Vigneulles is away from major traffic routes. In the neighboring municipality of Damelevières there is a separate stop on the railway line from Lunéville to Nancy. The N333 (regional part of the N4 Paris-Nancy-Strasbourg) passes a few kilometers north of the municipality. The D1 and D116, which run through the municipality, are important for regional traffic.
