The municipality is located about 35 kilometers southeast of Nancy in the south of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department on the border with the Vosges department . Neighboring communities are Vennezey in the north-east, Essey-la-Côte in the east, Damas-aux-Bois (in the Vosges department) in the south and south-west, Saint-Rémy-aux-Bois in the west and Rozelieures in the north-west and north. history

Today's community is first mentioned in 1177 as Cembench in a document from Beaupré Abbey. Historically, Saint-Boingt belonged to the Vogtei (Bailliage) Châtel and thus to the Duchy of Lorraine , which fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the community was then in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . From 1793 to 1801 the community was assigned to the Lunéville district. Saint-Boingt was part of the canton of Bayon from 1793 to 2015 and has been within the canton of Lunéville-2 since 2015. Since 1801, Saint-Boingt has also been assigned to the Arrondissement of Lunéville. Until 1871, the community was in the old Meurt (h) e. Since then it has been part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department.
