Val-et-Châtillon is a French commune with 597 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); it belongs to the Arrondissement of Lunéville and the Canton of Baccarat .

geography

The municipality is located on the upper Vezouze on the edge of the Vosges , about 30 kilometers east of Lunéville .

history

Leudinus Bodo , Bishop of Toul , founded a women's convent around 670, the first abbess of which was his daughter Thieberga. The monastery was named after him until the 13th century Bodonis Monasterium , later Bonmoutier . The landscape around the monastery was called Val de Bonmoutier , the first of which can be found in the place name.
