Méhoncourt is a French commune with 240 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Lunéville and the canton of Lunéville-2 (until 2015 the canton of Bayon ).

geography

The municipality is located about 25 kilometers southeast of Nancy in the south of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department. Neighboring municipalities are Charmois in the north, Blainville-sur-l'Eau in the north-east, Lamath and Einvaux in the east, Brémoncourt in the south and south-west, Domptail-en-l'Air in the west, Romain in the west and north-west and Barbonville in the north-west. The community consists of the village of Méhoncourt, the hamlets of Belchamp and Mainbermont and some individual farms.

history

The place was settled early. This was proven by excavations that unearthed finds from the Gallo-Roman period. The present community is first mentioned in 1250 as Mooncort in a document from Belchamp Abbey. The ruling families changed in the Middle Ages. The parish was part of the bailiwick (Bailliage) Nancy. This in turn belonged historically to the Duchy of Lorraine , which fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the community was then in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . From 1793 to 1801 the community was assigned to the Lunéville district. Méhoncourt changed cantons several times. From 1793 to 1801 it was part of the canton of Blainville, from 1801 to 2015 of the canton of Bayon and since then of the canton of Lunéville-2. Since 1801 Méhoncourt has also been assigned to the Arrondissement of Lunéville. Until 1871, the community was in the old Meurt (h) e. Since then it has been part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department . In the 17th century Belchamp Abbey was completely destroyed and never rebuilt. Between 1800 and 1806 the previously independent community of Mainbermont was incorporated. From 1801 this municipality belonged to the canton of Gerbéviller.
