Lorey is a French commune with 99 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Lunéville and the canton of Lunéville-2 (until 2015 the canton of Bayon ).

geography

The municipality is located about 23 kilometers south-southeast of Nancy in the south of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department. It is located on the eastern edge of the Moselle valley between two hills. Both the Euron and the Moselle flow through the municipality . Neighboring municipalities are Saint-Mard in the north, Domptail-en-l'Air in the north and east, Haigneville in the southeast, Bayon in the southeast, Roville-devant-Bayon in the south and Neuviller-sur-Moselle in the west.

history

The present municipality is mentioned indirectly in the 12th century (Vinea in Loreio) in the Latin form Loreio for the first time in a document. Historically, Lorey belonged to the Vogtei (Bailliage) Rosières-aux-Salines and thus to the Duchy of Lorraine , which fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the community was then in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . From 1793 to 1801 the community was assigned to the Lunéville district. Lorey was part of the canton of Bayon from 1793 to 2015 and has been within the canton of Lunéville-2 since 2015. Since 1801 Lorey has also been assigned to the Arrondissement of Lunéville. Until 1871, the community was in the old Meurt (h) e. Since then it has been part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department.

Lorey is close to major transport routes. The railway line from Nancy to Épinal runs through the neighboring municipality of Bayon to the south. The nearest stop is in this municipality. The E23 passes a few kilometers west of the community. The closest connection is in Laneuveville-devant-Bayon. The D112, which passes a few meters west of the village, is important for regional traffic.
