Toponymy and History
The place name comes from Latin : Envas or Envallis means something like in the valley . Over the centuries the spelling changed from Envalis via Envalz, Envau, Envaus, Einvaulz, Einval, Enwal and Enwaux to today's Einvaux .
Historians assume that the street name Rue de Chaumont in the south of the village points to a formerly independent place as part of an ancient settlement called Leugues .
The patriarchal cross in the municipality's coat of arms shows that it belongs to Lorraine; the three ravens refer to an old proverb that said that you should hide your legs when the ravens come with their crows' feet, which are dirty from the clay soil that is typical here. The wheat sheaf symbolizes agriculture as the main source of income.
