Baccarat ( German obsolete: Burgambach ) is a French town with 4,330 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Lunéville and is the capital of the canton of Baccarat . The people of Baccarat are called bachamois .
Baccarat is known for crystal glass of Baccarat , which is produced here since the 18th century.
Geography, history
The city is located between Lunéville and Saint-Dié on the Meurthe , the valley of which widens here after it leaves the Vosges .
On August 12, 1944, about 90 soldiers from the command company Operation Loyton of the British Special Air Service jumped off with parachutes at Baccarat . On October 31, 1944 soldiers of the 2nd division blindée liberated Baccarat from the German occupation. Major General Leclerc had his headquarters there for about two weeks, then his division advanced along with US troops to liberate Strasbourg.

- Église Saint-Remy, concrete church from 1957 that replaces a medieval church that was destroyed in 1944. 2000 pieces of crystal glass embedded in the concrete bathe the interior in a special light.
