Michal Pšenko (born July 8, 1982 ) is a former Slovak skier who was active in ski jumping and Nordic combined .

Career

Ski jumping

Pšenko, who competed for ŠKP Štrbské Pleso , made his debut as a ski jumper in the 1998/99 season in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . In his first season he won five Continental Cup points and thus reached position 127 in the overall ranking. On January 16, 1999 he made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup in Zakopane . With 44th place he remained without any points. Two weeks later he reached 11th place with the team at the Team World Cup in Willingen .

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1999 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer , Pšenko won silver in the individual on the normal hill behind the Japanese Kazuki Nishishita . Almost three weeks later he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein , where the jumping from the large hill and the team competition were held in Bischofshofen . When jumping from the normal hill in Ramsau, he retired after a jump to 81 meters in the first round and finished 48th on points with Maxim Polunin . When jumping on the large hill, he was also eliminated after round one and with his 93 meters reached 42nd place with the Swiss Marco Steinauer, tied with the points . In the team competition, Slovakia did not compete with its own team. At the Slovak Junior Championships in ski jumping in 1999 in Králiky Pšenko won the individual jumping. In the 1999/2000 season Pšenko reached his best point placement with 40 points, even if this again only reached 127th place in the overall standings.

After a few years international break as a special jumper, Pšenko started again in the Continental Cup in July 2003. In the first competition in Velenje he was 30th again in the points. At the end of the season, however, he had only won four points and was 122nd overall.

In his last season as a special jumper in 2004/05 , he did not achieve any great success again, so that after the season, which he finished 152nd overall, he withdrew as a special jumper.

Nordic combination

For the first time as a combined athlete Pšenko started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein . He landed 54th place in the individual competition. A year later, on March 10, 2000, he started in the Nordic Combined World Cup for the first time . In Oslo he missed a point placement as 47th. In the B World Cup in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc , Pšenko achieved a good podium finish with third place. He also landed in the points at the Summer Grand Prix 2000 in Klingenthal and Oberhof . In January 2001 he also won good points in the World Cup in Reit im Winkl .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2001 in Lahti , Pšenko was able to place 41st in the Gundersen singles. He retired in the sprint. After winning points again at the World Cup in Oslo in March, he finished the 2000/01 season in 43rd place in the overall World Cup, which was the best result of his career.

At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City Pšenko landed in the individual on the 38th place and in the sprint on the 39th place. A few weeks before the games he had achieved 17th place in the individual at the 2002 Junior World Championships in Schonach in the Black Forest .

In the 2002/03 season Pšenko did not start in the senior national team. He stayed in the B World Cup for the entire season. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in the Italian Val di Fiemme he reached rank 41 in the individual and rank 42 in the sprint.

After Pšenko achieved good points results at the Summer Grand Prix 2003 , he started again in the World Cup for the 2003/04 season . After a poor start in Kuusamo , Finland , he returned to the B World Cup a few days later in Rovaniemi . In mid-December, however, he came back to the A-squad in Val di Fiemme, but delivered only poor performances. It was not until January 2004 that he reached the World Cup points again in Seefeld in Tyrol . In February he started in a team world cup in Oberstdorf for the first time and reached 13th place with the team.

At the beginning of the 2004/05 season , Pšenko retired from several World Cups and therefore moved again to the B World Cup, where he again scored points in Karpacz in February . He then received a starting place for the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2005 in Oberstdorf. There Pšenko reached the 46th place in the sprint after he did not reach the goal in the Gundersen individual. At the end of the season he started again unsuccessfully at the World Cup in Oslo.

In the 2005/06 season Pšenko got only one B-squad place and ended, after he did not reach any top positions in the B-World Cup, after the end of the season, his active career.

Pšenko now plays football in the senior men's team of FK Lamač .
