Jaklin Çarkçı

Jaklin çarkçı (* 1958 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is a Turkish mezzo-soprano of the Istanbul State Opera with Armenian descent.

Life

Jaklin Çarkçı was introduced to the opera world at an early age by her father Jirayr Çarkçı ; he was one of the first soloists at the Istanbul State Opera. She is a graduate of the Liceo Italiano Grammar School in Istanbul.

Jaklin Çarkçı's career made her debut at the Istanbul State Opera in 1988 as Azuncena in Giuseppe Verdi's Il trovatore . The State Opera Ballet then selected her as part of the soloist group. She had over 150 appearances as the title actress in Carmen . After that she began a world tour and performed in Belarus , Bulgaria ( Sofia ) and Switzerland ( Solothurn ). After she was awarded the “Prime Ministry Information and Good Manners Scholarship” by the Turkish Ministry of Culture in 1993 and 1994, she went to Italy , where she worked with conductors and directors such as Robert Wagner , Roberto Benzi, Lucas Caritions, Letizia Cavani and Giancarlo del Monaco worked together. She has also collaborated with sopranos such as Leyla Gencer and was tutored by Carlo Bergonzi and Giacomo Aragall. In 2005 she won first place in the Umberto Giordano singing competition in Foggia . Jaklin Çarkçı also won first place in the Renata Tebaldi Singing Competition, where she represented Turkey - with 99.3 points out of 100.

Jaklin Çarkçı speaks Armenian , Turkish , Italian , Latin , Spanish and English. Çarkçı sees herself not only as a musician, but also as a good example of what she sees as a contemporary Turkish woman. In their own words:

Her daughter Sirel Yakupoğlu is also an artist at the Istanbul State Opera.
