Maxim Polunin ( Russian and Kazakh Максим Полунин ; born June 23, 1975 in Alma-Ata ) is a former Kazakh ski jumper .

Polunin began in 1993 for the first time in the Kazakh team at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1993 in Swedish Falun . He took 61st place on the normal hill and 54th place on the large hill. After that, Polunin was quiet internationally for six years. It was not until February 7, 1999 that he competed internationally again in the World Cup show jumping in Harrachov and reached 55th place on the large hill. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein , he jumped to 48th place on the normal hill. A year later he jumped in the World Cup team in the Finnish Lahti together with Alexander Korobov , Pawel Gaiduk and Stanislav Filimonov on the 9th Place. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , he achieved a 38th place on the normal hill and a 48th place on the large hill. In the team competition he was only 13th with the team. In the first World Cup competition after the Olympic Games in Trondheim , he achieved the best individual result of his career with 37th place. Despite this increase in performance, he was mainly used in the Continental Cup and only jumped in team competitions in the World Cup. In 2003 he even only jumped at FIS races . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in Val di Fiemme , he finished eleventh with the team. After two more competitions in the Continental Cup and the team world cup competition on March 8, 2003 in Oslo , where he and the team reached 9th place, Polunin ended his active ski jumping career.
