Marco Steinauer (born April 13, 1976 in Einsiedeln ) is a former Swiss ski jumper .

Career

Steinauer started regularly in the World Cup from the 1994/95 season after he had already received two appearances in jumping competitions in Switzerland in January 1992. Although he had not yet won a World Cup point, he was part of the Swiss team at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay . There he was able to take a fourteenth place on the normal hill and a fifth place with the team, but he was eliminated from the large hill after the first round. At the beginning of the 1995/96 season he was able to achieve several results among the top ten, but from the beginning of January his form deteriorated and he always took stable places in the midfield. In 1996, however, he was able to secure the title in the Swiss championship. From the following season 1996/97, his performance in the World Cup remained largely constant for several years: He always fought for a place in the second round and, apart from a few outliers (such as a sixth place in November 1999 in Kuopio ), he always took places in between Rank 25 and 45 a. From 2003 he often competed in the second-class Continental Cup , where he occupied places in the front midfield. In 2006 he finally ended his career after 128 starts in the World Cup. During this time he had participated in the Winter Olympics in 1998 and 2002 , as well as in the Ski Flying World Championships in 1996, 1998 and 2000. Although he started at five other Nordic World Ski Championships , he was unable to match his placements from 1995 in Thunder Bay.

Steinauer is a trained construction worker and worked part-time in addition to his sporting career. He has been working full-time in Unterägeri since his career ended .
