The Canton Blâmont was 2015 a French canton in the Arrondissement Luneville , in Meurthe-et-Moselle and the region Lorraine ; its main town was Blâmont , the last representative in the General Council of the Département was Philippe Colin from 2011 to 2015.

The canton of Blâmont was 236.17 km² and had 5,350 inhabitants in 1999, which corresponded to a population density of 22 inhabitants per km². It was on average at 273 meters above sea ​​level , between 230 m in Vaucourt and 364 m in Frémonville .

The canton was located in the southeast of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department on its eastern border.

history

The canton was initially part of the Meurthe department . After the Peace of Frankfurt as the end of the war of 1870–71 , the canton remained French and was now part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department . Since then, the canton has also included the communes Avricourt and Igney , which previously belonged to the canton of Réchicourt-le-Château and were the only ones in this canton not to be annexed by Germany.
