The canton of Longwy is a French canton in the Arrondissement Briey , in the Département Meurthe-et-Moselle and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Longwy .

The canton is located in the north of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department.
history
The canton was established in 1790. Until 2015, the town of Longwy was the only municipality in the canton of Longwy. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 8 in 2015. 4 of the 8 communes of the previous canton of Mont-Saint-Martin and 3 of the 6 communes of the previous canton of Herserange were added to the previous commune .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Christian Ariès / Sylvie Balon (both PS) won against Andrée Himbert / Christophe Le Lardic (both FN ) with 63.79% of the vote (turnout: 35.60%).
