The canton of Neuves-Maisons is a French constituency in the arrondissements of Nancy and Toul , in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Neuves-Maisons .

history

The canton was created on August 2, 1973 by splitting off from the canton of Nancy-Ouest . Until 2015, nine municipalities belonged to the canton of Neuves-Maisons. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 14. In addition to the previous 9 communes, there were 2 communes each from the previous cantons of Saint-Nicolas-de-Port (Flavigny-sur-Moselle and Richardménil) and Vézelise (Frolois and Pulligny ) and the community of Sexey-aux-Forges from the canton of Toul-Sud .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Neuves-Maisons included the nine municipalities of Bainville-sur-Madon , Chaligny , Chavigny , Maizières , Maron , Méréville , Messein , Neuves-Maisons (main town) and Pont-Saint-Vincent . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​85.29 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5433.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Audrey Normand / Pascal Schneider (both PS) won against Nathalie Roussel / Mathias Vincent (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 58.93% (turnout: 50.88%).
