history
The first forerunner of the place name appeared in the Latin form Sisseiaco as early as 982 . It gradually developed via Sessiacum in 1050 and the old French Sissei in 1196 to become today's Sexey . In 1594 the village was given the suffix -aux-Forges (by the blacksmiths) to distinguish it from the nearby village of the same name (today the municipality of Sexey-les-Bois ). As early as the middle of the 11th century, Sexey belonged to the diocese of Toul . This is also evident in the coat of arms: a bishop's staff dominates here , framed by a hammer and anvil, the symbols of the blacksmiths' workshops that were built here from the 15th century.
