Saint-Baussant is a commune with 73 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the French department of Meurthe-et-Moselle in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).
geography
Saint Baussant is located at an altitude of 230 meters on the Woëvre plain about 20 kilometers west of Pont-à-Mousson and has a portion of the Lac de Madine in the northwest . The forest borders with the Forêt des Hauts de Mad in the southeast. The Rupt de Mad flows through the municipality . Although it is in the middle of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park , the municipality of Saint-Baussant is not part of it because of the oil tank farm.

In the northeast, Saint-Baussant borders on Essey-et-Maizerais , in the east on Flirey , in the south on Seicheprey and in the west on Lahayville (Département Meuse).
history
Saint-Baussant is a village founded in Gallo-Roman times. From 1455, the castle of Saint-Baussant formed the center of the village. It was destroyed in 1636 and, after its reconstruction by Thierry de Saint Baussant in 1724, again in 1825, so that today only ruins remain. Before the French Revolution , the place was called Roche-sur-Mad . During the First World War, the village was directly at the front and was badly affected in the trench warfare. Then the reconstruction took place.
economy
Saint-Baussant is dominated by agriculture. An oil tank farm with a capacity of 74,300 m³ extends southeast of the village. The tank farm is located on the oil pipeline from the port of Donges via Melun to Metz .
Infrastructure
Saint-Baussant is located on the D28 between the junction of the D952 in the northeast and the junction of the D958 in the south. The Nancy - Commercy railway crosses the south of the village.
