Bruley is a French commune with 610 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It is located in the Lorraine Regional Nature Park .

geography

The municipality of Bruley is four kilometers northwest of Toul .

origin of the name

The word Bruley does not derive from the French brûlé (Eng. Burned), but probably refers to the vegetation of the adjacent hill. This consisted mainly of heather , which led to the name Brueriacum. This finally resulted in today's word Bruley.

history

In 2007 the village hosted the first edition of the Fête de l'Excellence en Lorraine . This was to show the wide range of local craftsmanship . A total of 15,000 people came to see the 60 showmen.

Culture and sights

The tower of a Romanesque church from the 12th century now serves as a cemetery chapel. Behind the 19th century church, built in neo-Gothic style, a replica of the Lourdes grotto can be seen.

economy

Bruley has achieved a certain local fame mainly thanks to its viticulture. The wines summarized in the name Côtes-de-Toul ( AOC ) are among the best in Lorraine.

In 2006 the unemployment rate was 6.4%.
