Liverdun is a French commune with 6087 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

The place name is probably derived from the name of the Roman god Liber and the Gallic word dunum (castle, fortress).

Liverdun is located on a hill in a loop of the Moselle , which has been channeled since 1999 , 18 kilometers northeast of Toul and 15 kilometers northwest of Nancy .
