Jaulny is a French commune with 203 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

Bridge over the Rupt de Mad

Jaulny is located in the valley of the Rupt de Mad tributary to the left of the Moselle , about 15 kilometers northwest of Pont-à-Mousson , in the immediate vicinity of the canton capital Thiaucourt-Regniéville . The LGV Est européenne line from Lorraine to Paris crosses the river valley between Jaulny and Thiaucourt on the highest bridge on the route. The municipality is located in the Lorraine Regional Nature Park .

The Jaulny were vassals of the Duke of Lorraine , while the Armoises served the Count or Duke of Bar . The two families shared the rulership (French: Seigneurie ) Jaulny: the castle and two thirds of the property belonged to the Jaulny family, one third to the Armoises family.

In 1504 Thierry des Armoises ceded his rights to the Duke of Lorraine. In 1587 the last representative of the Jaulny family, Ferry III, died. de Jaulny, in Basel. The Armoises inherited the rule and took over the castle as a family seat.

1624-1668 Jaulny experienced its heyday under Jean des Armoises and Dorothée d'Urre de Thessière, Seigneurs von Jaulny and Commercy . They were followed in 1668–1677 by Louis des Armoises and Marie-Claude de Haraucourt , daughter of the “Christian Amazon” Alberte-Barbe de Saint-Baslemont .
