The area around Maizières is characterized by fields and pastureland, and the extensive Bois Jurá forest extends over the plateau in the northeast . The Forêt de la Voivre in the south is also part of the municipality's area, so that the proportion of forest in the total municipality area is over 50%.

history

First mentioned in 1051, Maizières was owned by the bishops of Toul from the 14th century . Her castle was destroyed in fighting in the 15th and 16th centuries. Today ruins still remind of that time. In the 18th century, the climate still allowed viticulture on the slopes north of the village. Today Maizières is a commune inhabited by many commuters, but which has retained its village character.

The Church of the Assumption ( Église de la Nativité-de-la-Vierge ) was built in the 17th century.

During the First World War the community was occupied by the Germans and in 1915 was given the name “Macheren”, and the station was named “Macheren (Lothr.)”.

Population development

The municipality of Maizières has recorded a steady population increase since 1962, which is due to the proximity to the industrial and service areas of the nearby agglomeration of Nancy / Ludres / Neuves-Maisons and the good transport links.
