It belongs to the Arrondissement of Nancy and the Canton of Grand Couronné (until 2015: Canton of Malzéville ). The inhabitants are called Bouxiérois .

Bouxières-aux-Chênes is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Montenoy in the north and northwest, Leyr in the north, Armaucourt and Lanfroicourt in the northeast, Bey-sur-Seille in the east and northeast, Amance in the south and southeast, Laître-sous-Amance in the south, Dommartin-sous-Amance in the south and south-west, Eulmont in the west and south-west, and Faulx in the north-west.
