Omelmont is a French commune with 189 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Nancy and the Pays du Saintois municipal association founded in 2012 .

geography

The municipality of Omelmont in the north of the Saintois landscape is located near the lower Brénon , seven kilometers from its confluence with the Madon and 22 kilometers south of Nancy .

The municipal area of ​​4.69 km² extends from the right, tree-lined terrace of the river Brénon (the course of the river itself is in the area of ​​the neighboring municipality of Houdreville) to the south-east gently rising plateau, which is used intensively for agriculture. Outside the settlement area, which mainly stretches along the Ceintrey-Vézelise road, there is mostly arable land, only in the north-west there is less than 10 hectares of forest.

Neighboring municipalities of Omelmont are: Houdreville in the north, Clérey-sur-Brenon in the north-east, Gerbécourt-et-Haplemont in the south-east, Tantonville in the south and Vézelise in the south-west and west.

The church in Omelmont dates from the 18th century. Worth seeing in the church is a painting of the Last Supper - a gift from Napoleon III.

Economy and Infrastructure

Omelmont was able to maintain its character as a farming village. There are five farms in the municipality (cereal cultivation, cattle breeding).

Départementsstraße 5 from Ceintrey to Vézelise crosses Omelmont in a south-west-north-east direction. Another road connection leads to neighboring Tantonville . At this halfway the Tantonville station is on the Nancy - Mirecourt - Merrey line , which is operated by the TER Lorraine transport company.
