Mexy is a French commune with 2,283 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Briey and the canton of Longwy (until 2015: canton of Herserange ).

Saulnes parish is south of Longwy . Neighboring communities of Mexy are Longwy in the north and north-west, Herserange in the north and north-east, Haucourt-Moulaine in the south and east, Chenières in the south and Réhon in the west.

The National Route 52 runs through the municipality .

history

Mexy can be traced back to a Gallo-Roman origin. The place name is derived from the Latin personal name Mercius . In the 15th century the place was still called Merxey .

Attractions

The former Saint-Barthélémy church from 1736 was destroyed in 1973 and replaced by a modern church.
