Iraqi governorates 1980–2003 (Kuwait was annexed as the 19th governorate 1990–1991.)

The Iraq 's 19  governorates ( Arabic محافظة, DMG muḥāfaẓa , pluralمحافظات / muḥāfaẓāt ) structured. The governorates (provinces) form the second administrative level, above which are the - largely autonomous - regions , of which there is so far only one, the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan .
