The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Briey and the canton of Pays de Briey (until 2015: canton of Audun-le-Roman ). The inhabitants are called Joppécourtais .

Joppécourt is located about 33 kilometers southwest of Luxembourg and 35 kilometers west-northwest of Thionville . Joppécourt is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Ville-au-Montois in the north, Fillières in the north and northeast, Serrouville in the east, Mercy-le-Haut in the south and southeast and Mercy-le-Bas in the west.
