Brainville is a French commune with 160 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Briey and the canton of Jarny (until 2015 Conflans-en-Jarnisy ).
geography
The municipality is on the border with the Meuse department , about 27 kilometers west of Metz . The Longeau river runs through the municipality and in parts forms the northern municipal boundary. Neighboring municipalities are Friauville in the north and northeast, Jarny in the northeast, Ville-sur-Yron in the east, Hannonville-Suzémont in the southeast, Labeuville and Latour-en-Woëvre (both in the Meuse department) in the south, and Allamont in the west, northwest and north.
history
Brainville and Porcher were historically part of the Duchy of Bar , which fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the communities were then in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . In 1811 what was then Brainville (1806: 262 inhabitants) and Porcher (1806: 148 inhabitants) merged to form today's municipality of Brainville. The unified municipality was in the old Moselle department until 1871, since then it has been part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department .
