Avril is about ten kilometers west-southwest of Thionville . The Conroy River runs along the eastern boundary of the municipality . Avril is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Trieux in the north and northwest, Lommerange in the north, Neufchef in the east and northeast, Moyeuvre-Petite and Moyeuvre-Grande in the southeast, Val de Briey in the south and southwest, Bettainvillers in the west and Tucquieegnux in the west and northwest.
