history
With the Peace of Frankfurt in 1871 the place became a border town to the German Empire . From the part of Lorraine annexed by the Germans , many people moved to Jœuf, this and the industrialization boom that started at the same time ensured that the population multiplied within a few years. The decline of mining in the region towards the end of the 20th century is also reflected in the population development of the small town: In 1968, 12,305 people lived in Jœuf, compared with only 7,454 in 1999.
