Puxe is a French commune with 120 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Briey and the canton of Jarny (until 2015 Conflans-en-Jarnisy ).

geography

The municipality is on the border with the Meuse department , about 28 kilometers west of Metz . The river Orne runs through the municipality and in parts forms the northern municipality boundary. Neighboring municipalities are Olley and Jeandelize in the north, Boncourt in the east, Friauville and Allamont in the south, Villers-sous-Pareid (in the Meuse department) in the southwest and Saint-Jean-lès-Buzy (in the Meuse department) in the west.

history

Bouzonville and Puxe were historically part of the Duchy of Bar , which fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the communities were then in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . In 1811, what was then Puxe (1800: 86 inhabitants) and Bouzonville (1800: 30 inhabitants) merged to form today's municipality of Puxe. The unified municipality was in the old Moselle department until 1871, since then it has been part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department .
