Villers-sous-Pareid is a French commune with 79 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (until 2015: Lorraine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Verdun , the canton of Étain (until 2015: canton Fresnes-en-Woëvre ) and the Territoire de Fresnes-en-Woëvre, founded in 1996 .
geography
The municipality is located around 26 kilometers southeast of Verdun in the Woëvre region . Villers-sous-Pareid is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Moulotte in the south, Harville on a short section in the southwest, Pareid in the west, Parfondrupt in the north, Saint-Jean-lès-Buzy and by the municipality of Puxe in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the northeast and from the municipality of Allamont in the east, which is also part of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department .
history
At the time of the Sire of Apremont at the end of the 13th century, there was a castle, of which only the remains of the moats remain. The village was called Villers en Woëvre until the 18th century .

particularities
Villers-sous-Pareid does not have its own church. There was an emergency chapel in the village, which was destroyed in 1793. After the First World War , a private house was converted into a chapel, which served as a church until the 1960s.
