The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Verdun and the canton of Clermont-en-Argonne (until 2015: canton of Montfaucon-d'Argonne ).

Romagne-sous-Montfaucon is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bantheville in the north, Cunel in the east, Cierges-sous-Montfaucon and Gennes-en-Argonne in the south, Exermont in the west and south-west and Landres-et-Saint-Georges in the west and north-west.
