Clermont-en-Argonne is a French commune with 1,480 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Verdun , the canton of Clermont-en-Argonne and the municipal association Center Argonne .

geography

Clermont-en-Argonne is located in the southeast of the Argonne , about 19 kilometers west-southwest of Verdun on the Aire . Clermont-en-Argonne is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Neuvilly-en-Argonne and Aubréville in the north, Récicourt in the northeast, Brabant-en-Argonne and Brocourt-en-Argonne in the east, Les Souhesmes-Rampont in the southeast, Ville-sur-Cousances and Rarécourt in the south, Beaulieu-en-Argonne in the south-west, Futeau in the west and south-west, Les Islettes in the west and Le Neufour and Le Claon in the north-west.

The A4 autoroute and the former route nationale 3 (now D603) and the Saint-Hilaire-au-Temple-Hagondange railway run through the municipality .

history

In 1973 the municipality of Auzéville-en-Argonne was attached to the municipality. The former municipalities of Jubécourt and Parois followed in the same year.
